The local prosecutor of the northern German city of Braunschweig is looking into the match-rigging affair surrounding referee Robert Hoyzer. As of yet, however, no official investigation has been opened and no charges have been filed against the 25-year-old who is suspected of fixing at least five matches. The prosecutor's office is in contact with the German Football Association (DFB). Four of Hoyzer's colleagues are reported to have informed the DFB of incongruities in matches that Hoyzer refereed. Second-division club Greuther Fürth is now appealing their Sept. 26 match against Duisburg which they lost 1-0. In the game, Hoyzer apparently oversaw an obvious handball by a Duisburg player. That makes the sixth league match that the DFB should investigate. The scandal broke when the DFB opened an inquiry into a German Cup match between top-league team Hamburg and regional side Paderborn who won 4-2 after being down 2-0 at one point.
