Huge sales to bulk buyers who stocked up on medicines before at the end of 2003 drove medicine expenditures at BKK, a health insurance fund in North Rhine-Westphalia, up by 40 percent, according to a statement released on Friday. “The insured used their last opportunity to stockpile their usual medicines before the health care reforms went into effect,” said Jörg Hoffmann, director of the board of managers. Since Jan. 1, prescription co-pays have increased.
