German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer has said he will fly to Madrid on Friday to join a mass anti-terror demonstration in the Spanish capital. The popular politician will be representing the German government at the rally held in the wake of the deadly bombings which killed nearly 200 people Thursday. The interior ministry has ordered flags on federal buildings and institutions to fly at half-mast in honor of the victims On Friday Chancellor Gerhard Schröder joined parliamentarians in the Bundestag for a minute's silence before the day's proceedings got underway. Parliament's speaker Wolfgang Thierse expressed the fears of many Germans: "Terrorism is drawing nearer to all of us, because these senseless attacks are designed to hit the daily life of people in one of Europe's capitals." Germany has offered to send help from its Federal Criminal Office to aid in the investigation of the attacks.
