Half a TRILLION euros: Angela Merkel's cabinet signs off on a massive rescue package for German banks - je 13.10.2008 16

The German cabinet has approved a financial rescue plan worth up to 500 billion euros. The package aims to prop up Germany's banks by stimulating lending between them. Chancellor Angela Merkel gave a televised press conference earlier outlining why she believes the rescue plan is necessary.
