Heromobile unites communities in Ghana

October 27, 2015

DW and Joy News used the Heromobile to look for interesting stories from local heroes in Ghana. Events in Accra brought local communities together and introduced thousands to DW’s brand of international news.

Over the course of four events, more than 10,000 people turned out to celebrate with interesting personalities and great music. Many of the attendees shared their own stories about what they do to stand out. DW and Joy News took pictures and captured these personal stories with photos – examples of which show the real breadth and width of people making a difference in Accra. Like Paulina Asorkor Amarh, a widow who developed an organization that takes care of widows in the community. Or Eric Mensah Sowah, a carpenter, mason and plumber who teaches young people for free.

DW’s new English channel was created with local heroes in mind, which is why Joy News and DW decided to create a Heromobile and tour different communities in Accra. By creating an event surrounding the target audience, the two broadcasters were able to successfully bring people together and spread a message of empowerment.
