Hertha and Gladbach flying high

Hertha Berlin 2-1 Bayer Leverkusen

It was a lightning fast start for the capital club, who went ahead through Vladimir Darida inside the opening ten minutes. The lead had Hertha climb up to third in the live Bundesliga table and they looked likely to stay there after Sebastian Boenisch was controversially sent off for a foul on Yanni Regäsel. Leverkusen, though, had a ‘Little Pea' up their sleeve. Javier Hernandez scored his eleventh goal in his last ten appearances to level the score before half-time. In a quiet second period, the home side made their one-man advantage count when on the hour mark, John Brooks rose highest to head home past Bernd Leno. The win keeps Hertha in the top-four, ahead of Wolfsburg, who face Borussia Dortmund in Saturday's late game.

Gladbach 3-1 Bayern Munich

The Foals handed Bayern Munich their first Bundesliga defeat of the season, with three second half goals - the first Bayern have conceded this season - proving decisive. After Bayern missed plenty of chances in the first half, it took just 15 minutes in the second half for Andre Schubert's side to take a remarkable 3-0 lead. The result leaves Bayern with only the consolation of a goal for Franck Ribery in his first appearance since March. Bayern missed Arjen Robben, Douglas Costa and David Alaba.

Cologne 0-1 Augsburg

If it wasn't for Timo Horn, Augsburg would have been well in front at the break. Several chances that fell to the likes of Raul Bobadilla and Caiuby were superbly saved by the German U21 international. Cologne were rewarded the chance to take an undeserved lead when Anthony Modeste stepped up for a penalty, but Marwin Hitz was equal to the Frenchman and kept the scores level. Raul Bobadilla's outstanding free-kick finally earned the visitors all three points from Cologne, and sees Augsburg move out of the relegation places.

Hamburg 1-3 Mainz
(Djourou 90' - Samperio 16‘, 51', Clemens 75')

Mainz's recent surge in good form continued on Saturday against Hamburg, who have also impressed recently. Jairo Samperio scored a remarkable opener, in which he looped a volley over Jaroslav Drobny from the floor after his cross rebounded back to him. Samperio completed his brace early in the second half, latching on to Yunus Malli's through ball to give Malli his first assist of the season. Christian Clemens completed the rout with 15 minutes to play on a swift Mainz counterattack. Johan Djourou added a late consolation, but the defeat sees Hamburg drop to ninth, whilst Mainz rise to seventh.

Ingolstadt 1-1 Hoffenheim

In what was a tight and tense affair in South Germany, Ingolstadt and bottom-club Hoffenheim could not be separated with the dying seconds proving vital. Ingolstadt captain Roger stepped up and curled home a stupendous free-kick for his first Bundesliga goal, but deep into added time, Mark Uth snatched an equalizer. The point takes Huub Stevens' side off the bottom of the Bundesliga table, ahead of Stuttgart.
