Germany's railways operator Deutsche Bahn inaugurated a new station Saturday at the Cologne-Bonn international airport, an increasingly popular hub for budget airlines. The station links up to the high-speed rail network from Cologne on the Rhine river to Frankfurt. It will also offer connections to destinations along the Rhine valley and into the Ruhr industrial region. Airport officials say the rise in low-cost airlines has helped boost passenger numbers at the airport over the past two years. Two German budget carriers, Hapag-Lloyd Express and Germanwings are based at Cologne-Bonn.
