How DW thinks Bayern Munich vs. Juventus will unfold

Ross Dunbar: A season hinges on 90 minutes

It's been out there for months that Bayern Munich's season - and Pep Guardiola's legacy - will be judged on what happens in Europe. Whether that's right is another debate entirely, and a 2-2 draw in Turin fuels the Pep critics that little longer.

Although the game is in the balance, Bayern have faced this situation many times. This feeling of everything riding on one game has been palpable in Munich for some time. What we know for sure is that Bayern like to go full-throttle in these situations (see previous knockout games).

Expect Arjen Robben, Douglas Costa and Robert Lewandowski to come out all guns blazing. Expect quick recycling of possession and immense power play from David Alaba and Xabi Alonso.

Juventus will be without Paulo Dybala and Claudio Marchisio, so the "Old Lady" will look to upset the Bayern defense as they did in the first leg. Guardiola will disagree, but this will be another major test of Joshua Kimmich's defensive capabilities.

After an early couple of goals, I'd expect Bayern to see the game out - but it won't be easy.

Prediction: Bayern 2-0 Juventus

Jonathan Harding: Bayern in the mood

Bayern's likelihood of advancing to the quarterfinals increased greatly on Tuesday morning after Juventus revealed Dybala and Marchisio would miss the second leg in Munich. Add to that the two away goals the Bavarians collected in the first leg and a Bayern exit from this position would be nothing short of remarkable.

Granted, Juventus still have some stellar names in their team, but the task of a goal and a clean sheet in Munich looks beyond them. Unaffected by injury and having rested some key players on the weekend, Bayern are raring to go. Thiago is back to his best, Mario Götze is playing again and Kingsley Coman is providing assists like drinks at a free bar.

While Juventus are not Shakhtar Donetsk or FC Porto - the two teams the German champions demolished in Munich last season - Bayern look ready to deliver a similarly impressive performance.

More than ever before, all eyes will be on Guardiola and his side. This is the year he wants to get it right, and it starts with a win at home against the Italian champions.

Prediction: Bayern 4-1 Juventus

Davis Van Opdorp: Don't underestimate Juventus

Without Dybala, Marchisio and Georgio Chiellini, one can easily dismiss Juventus when they travel to the Allianz Arena. However, the Old Lady's league form has been too impressive to ignore, and those three players are not the only reason the Italian team has dropped just two points in their last 20 games. Less than a year away from the Champions League final, Juventus still have plenty of ability to give Bayern a hard time, even if they do not come out as victors.

Massimiliano Allegri knows how to get the best out of his team, and chooses several different tactical schemes to do so. His defense is also very skilled at absorbing pressure, an important attribute even though it has trouble getting the ball out of harm's way. Not having the raw talent of Dybala at his disposal will sting, but Allegri needs to coordinate one mismatch between Alvaro Morata and David Alaba and Juventus will have the goal that dictates the game.

The odds are certainly not in their favor, not with the attacking talent Guardiola can toy with. Juventus will nonetheless be up for the occasion, and what an occasion it would be if they were able to send Guardiola packing from Munich without a Champions League trophy. Two away goals is a pretty steep mountain to climb though, and the Old Lady may not have the strength to scale that peak.
