German fashion house Hugo Boss is currently testing out the production of men's suits in China, its boss Bruno Sälzer told Thursday's edition of German business daily Handelsblatt. The company already manufactures T-shirts in China and is having some suits made there now to test the quality of production, Sälzer said. "In three to five years, the Chinese will be producing clothes which are equal to European quality," Sälzer told the paper. He predicted that recent changes in import quotas would strengthen the competition from China in the luxury textile market and erode the traditional strength of Italian manufacturers. "The decline of the textile industry in Italy began three or four years ago... It will continue," Sälzer said.
