Iceland's coalition government has fallen apart.. after Prime Minister Geir Horde handed in his resignation. Iceland was long viewed as a haven of peace and prosperity but it was hard hit by the economic downturn. Its financial system collapsed in October under the weight of debt built up during years of rapid growth. The government finally gave in to public pressure for early elections. It will now go to the polls on May 9th.
