In the Wake of Typhoon Haiyan - Reforestation in the Philippines

For many decades, the ancient tropical forests have been subjected to uncontrolled logging. Local residents cleared forests to obtain land for agriculture. As a result, biodiversity is under serious threat and the land is now even more vulnerable to the effects of natural disasters. The German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and local NGOs are working to raise awareness of the importance of forest preservation among the local population.
