Indian Air Industry Battles Downturn

17/10/08October 17, 2008

Earlier this week, the state-run carrier Air India said it was considering letting 15,000 workers take up to five years’ unpaid leave. The private airline Jet went one step further and announced it was sacking around 1,900 employees because of massive losses. Public protests and political pressure later forced the company to go back on this decision. It then reinstated 800 employees.
