Iraq's progress

Iraq's new parliament has convened for the first time since the March 7 election. But negotiations over forming a government are expected to take many more weeks.

Since the US-led invasion in 2003, the country has been fighting to recover from years of violence and oppressive dictatorship and build a new future from the rubble of war. Deutsche Welle looks back at the events of the past year as Iraq continues to take stumbling steps towards peace and democracy.
