Germany will start training Iraqi police in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in March, a spokeswoman for German Interior Minister Otto Schily said Monday. Specialists from Germany's federal police will teach 154 Iraqis criminal investigation techniques over an eight-week period. During his visit to the Persian Gulf, Schily agreed on details of the training seminars with representatives from UAE and the Iraqi transitional government. Chancellor Gerhard Schröder told the United States in September 2003 that Germany would be willing to train Iraqi police, as part of efforts to help rebuild Iraq.
