Kenyan Breaks World Record at Berlin Marathon

Kenya's Paul Tergat set the world’s best time on Sunday at the Berlin Marathon, winning the race in a time of 2:04:55, according to unofficial results. Tergat, 34, bettered the mark of 2:05:38 set by American Khalid Khannouchi at the London Marathon on April 14, 2002. After having come in second place in a string of marathons and taking silver medals at the past two Olympics, Tergat said he was "relieved" by the win. "At last! ... Some people said ‘You cannot win a race’ but I knew my day would come. I knew nothing was going to stop me," he said. Tergat will take home €120,000 for his win at the marathon, one of the largest in the world, with over 30,000 runners.
