Klinsi Wants Hamann, Deisler in Confed Cup

German national soccer coach Jürgen Klinsmann has recalled Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann into his 23-man squad for the 2005 Confederations Cup -- running from June 15-29 -- ending his 11-month exile from the international stage. Hamann, 31, won the last of his 58 caps in June 2004 as Germany crashed out of the Euro 2004 finals with a 2-1 reverse at the hands of the Czech Republic. Hamann has yet to play since Klinsmann succeeded Rudi Völler but has the chance to impress in the Confederations Cup and make a late bid for a spot in the 2006 World Cup squad. Bayern Munich midfielder Sebastian Deisler is another player to be recalled despite limited action this season for the German champions. Deisler, 25, last donned the German jersey in October 2004 as Germany defeated Iran 2-0 in Tehran. Deisler is joined by Bayern teammates Michael Ballack, Oliver Kahn, Torsten Frings and Bastian Schweinsteiger although Philipp Lahm, on loan at VfB Stuttgart, will miss out after sustaining a crucial ligament injury. Klinsmann has also handed a first call-up to Schalke 04 striker Mike Hanke, 21, as he continues to put the emphasis on youth. Three-time world champions Germany face Australia on June 15 in their first Confederations Cup match before taking on Tunisia three days later and Argentina on June 21.
