'Terrorist' knife attack at London station

London's Metropolitan Police said on Saturday night that the stabbing at Leytonstone underground station was being treated as a "terrorist incident."

One man was seriously injured and two others received minor injuries when the man launched his attack just after 1900 UTC.

The attacker was arrested after being hit by police Taser fire.

A number of British newspapers reported that eyewitnesses to the incident said the man shouted "This is for Syria." Police declined to comment on the reports.

One man at the scene was reported to have shouted: "You ain't no Muslim, bruv! You're no Muslim, bruv! You ain't no Muslim!"

"We are treating this as a terrorist incident. I would urge the public to remain calm, but alert and vigilant," Commander Richard Walton, who leads the counter-terrorism unit, said.

"The threat from terrorism remains at severe, which means that a terrorist attack is highly likely," he added. "Anyone who may have captured video or photographic footage of the incident is also urged to make contact with the Counter-Terrorism Command via the Anti-Terror hotline."

Last week Britain's Parliament voted in favor of joining airstrikes on targets of the self-proclaimed "Islamic State" (IS) group in Syria.
