Lawyers' "Long March" Begins in Pakistan

09/06/08June 9, 2008

On Monday, thousands of Pakistani activists and lawyers launched fresh protests aimed at pressuring the new government to reinstate the judges sacked by President Musharraf last year. The so-called "Long March", which kicked off in the southern city of Karachi, is expected to culminate in Islamabad later this week. At least 60 senior judges, including Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhury, were dismissed by last November after a state of emergency was declared.
