On Wednesday, the German airline Lufthansa announced it would become the first commercial airline to offer high-speed Internet access to passengers on its flights. Lufthansa passengers traveling from Frankfurt, Germany, to Washington, D.C., will be able to surf the Web at high speed and log into their company's networks to retrieve e-mail. The airline rewired one of its Boeing 747-400 jets to allow communication with satellites over the Atlantic. Lufthansa said it would expand the service to include routes to Asia and, eventually, South America and Africa.
