German carrier and Europe’ third-largest airline Lufthansa has announced it will cancel four U.S. flights on Thursday, September 11, the second anniversary of the terrorist attacks on account of low demand from business travelers. Katrin Haase, spokeswoman for the airline told the Associated Press the flights were dropped from the schedule back in July once it became clear there weren’t enough passengers. She confirmed that Lufthansa flights from Frankfurt to New York, Washington and Philadelphia and from Munich to New York would be affected. Frankfurt airport authorities have said security measures on September 11 will be high as usual and will not be stepped up for the day. A spokesman said security at the airport had been continuously improved and fine-tuned over the past two years.
