There certainly is a sense of déjà-vu to it: Anwar Ibrahim, the de facto opposition leader in Malaysia, is being accused of sodomy. Anwar, a former deputy prime minister spent six years in jail from 1998 onwards, after being charged with corruption and sodomy. At the time, it was widely believed the accusations were politically motivated, and in 2004 a court exonerated Anwar. On the weekend, a 23-year-old male aide filed a police report accusing him, and Anwar quickly fled into the Turkish ambassador’s residence. Meanwhile, he's left it after the government promised he would be safe.
