Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak will take over the post later this week, a move that will make him prime minister some days later.

At the start of the congress, Razak warned the party that it must undergo a radical overhaul to win back public confidence.

The UMNO, which has ruled the country for nearly five decades, suffered major losses in last year’s polls.
