Germany international Marco Reus has signed a new contract with German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. After months of speculation the 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a contract with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday which extends his deal with the club through to 2019. The Dortmund born-and-raised winger has played 169 games for BVB, scoring 70 goals.

"I am very happy about my decision to stay with BVB. Dortmund is simply my home city and Borussia is my club" said Reus on the club's website on Tuesday.

"I'm looking forward to a succesful future with my team, and with our fantastic fans' support. There's a lot to do but I really want to help." The player also confirmed the signing himself, with a post on social media site Twitter.

Reus had been subject to speculation linking him with a move away from the club this summer, with a 25 million euro ($28.2 million) buy-out clause set to be activated at the end of the season.

According to German media reports, the new contract has no buy-out clause meaning he would be unable to leave the club without a bid being accepted.

"We never got distracted by all the rumors about possible transfers," said Dortmund's club chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke. "We always saw that there was a good chance that this special player consciously decides on a future at Dortmund."

"Marco can define an era in Dortmund like Uwe Seller in Hamburg, or Steven Gerrard in Liverpool," Watzke continued. "That Marco decided in favor of Borussia Dortmund in the middle of our sporting crisis shows that he identifies with the club and we are proud of that."

Marco Reus is the second player to sign a major new contract with the club in the last year, after Ilkay Gündogan signed until 2016 in April of last year.
