A famous German survivalist who has been missing on a wilderness expedition in the Brazilian jungle contacted his office for the first time since August 13 over the weekend. On July 31, a helicopter deposited Rüdiger Nehberg, 68, deep in the sparsely populated northeastern Amazon jungle, where he plans to journey for more than 1,000 kilometers through rugged terrain populated only by indigeneous peoples. Nehberg, a noted German human rights activist, is seeking to draw attention to the environmental damage deforestation and construction has caused in the Amazon region through his expedition. Nehberg’s office said the explorer reported having "massive problems," with Brazilian authorities but did not elaborate further.
