German teams taking part in the first games of the Champions League knock-out round on Tuesday night experienced mixed fortunes against English opposition. Bayern Munich entertained reigning Premiership champions Arsenal at the Olympic Stadium and beat the visitors 3-1. Two goals from Claudio Pizarro and another from Hasan Salihamidzic put the Bundesliga leaders in a commanding position for the return leg in London next month. Kolo Toure's consolation goal means the Londoners still have a chance albeit a slim one. Bayer Leverkusen were on the wrong end of the same scoreline in Liverpool after goals from Luis Garcia, John Arne Riise and former Bayern player Dietmar Hamann put the Merseysiders in pole position. Franca's last minute goal means Leverkusen have a vital away goal for the return leg at the BayArena in March. Werder Bremen host Olympique Lyon at the Weserstadion on Wednesday night.
