The number of children living in poverty in Germany will climb to 1.5 million over the next two years, a new study predicted. While today one in 15 children lives in poverty, that will grow to one in 10, according to the study by the German Association for Social Parity. In Berlin alone, 100,000 children live in poverty. ''Half the children live with a single parent, the other half in families with four or more children," the president of the German Child Protection League, Heinz Hilgers, told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper. In Germany, poverty is defined as anyone living on less than 50 percent of the average per capita income.
