More Jewish Restitution Claims Possible

A list of more than 59,000 Jewish property owners from the former East Germany who are entitled to file for compensation payments over the next six months has been published. The original deadline for filing for restitution of East German property expired in 1992, but the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany said it established a goodwill fund to enable property owners and their heirs who had missed the deadline to file until March 31, 2004. "Only a small minority" of the claims are likely to be approved by the German Restitution Authority, the conference noted in a press release.
