Neither opel staff nor the townspeople of Rüsselsheim can imagine life without Opel

Michael BärFebruary 26, 2009

Welcome back. With Opel due to present its rescue plan tomorrow, workers at the company's German plants are demonstrating today -- calling for the state to step in and save their jobs. Parent company GM plans to trim tens of thousands of jobs at its overseas operations, and people here are worried that many of those could be at the four Opel plants here in Germany. The factory at Rüsselsheim is Opel's oldest: it's been around for 150 years and neither staff nor the townspeople in general can imagine life without it.
