Pushpa Kamal Dahal, better known as “Prachanda”, the “Fierce One”, is likely to become the world’s first democratically-elected Maoist prime minister on Friday in Nepal. Two other parties, the centre-left Unified Marxist-Leninists and the regional Madhesi Forum have promised to join his Maoists and vote for him. This should give Prachanda a comfortable majority in the Constituent Assembly. The Nepali Congress, on the other hand, seems headed for the opposition benches.
