New Munch Found in Germany

A previously unknown painting by Norwegian expressionist master Edvard Munch was discovered underneath another of his works during restoration, a Bremen museum

said. The painting, whose subject, title and size were not disclosed, will be officially presented Friday by the Bremen Kunsthalle. It was discovered during the restoration of Munch's "The Dead Mother." The Bremen Kunsthalle has since verified that it is by the impressionist master, who died at the age of 81 in 1944 and is best known for "The Scream." "The Scream" and another of his major works, "The Madonna", were stolen in an audacious robbery last year when two armed and hooded thieves grabbed the paintings in broad daylight from a museum in Oslo. The paintings, which are still missing, have a combined value of

about $100 million (79.6 million euros).
