Optical wireless communication is a promising method for data transmission in places where there the mobile network is weak or where electromagnetic radiation is undesirable. The technology uses LED lights that are switched on and off more quickly than the human eye can detect. Berlin’s Fraunhofer Institute has been researching the technology for more than a decade, and it’s now almost ready for market.
