Opposition MPs in the Philippines Protest Against Charter Change

Thousands of activists joined by opposition lawmakers in Manila are set to stage a massive rally on Friday to protest against the moves by the allies of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to amend the constitution. Under the constitution, which was enacted in 1987, Philippine President Arroyo has to leave office in 2010. But her allies want to amend the charter now and extend her six-year term.
