Tanguar haor in Bangladesh is not just a place to hang your hammock; it's a unique wetland ecosystem, teeming with life. It also supports freshwater fisheries, contributing to the country's food production and security.

The Bangladeshi government declared it in "critical condition" in 1999 due to overexploitation of natural resources and has taken steps to protect it. Like other wetlands, it helps humans cope with extreme weather by acting as a giant reservoir in times of flooding or by mitigating the impact of storm surges on the shoreline. But sometimes it just provides a spot to relax.
