A multitude of erect-crested penguins gathered on the rocky shore of New Zealand’s remote Antipodes Island make for a dramatic sight. In fact these penguins’ numbers have fallen steeply over recent years and they are listed as an endangered species. Endemic to the Antipodes and Bounty Islands, one reason their existence is so fragile is that they have just two breeding sites.
