Outrage over Myanmar Aid Delays

08/05/08May 8, 2008

Six days after the Nargis hit Myanmar, the situation remains uncertain. State media says up to one million people have been rendered homeless and up to 23,000 have lost their lives. The top US diplomat in Myanmar estimates the death toll to be closer to 100,000. Aid agencies say there will still be the problem of taking relief supplies to the delta. Whereas Myanmar’s military rulers are still undecided about how much foreign assistance to let in – despite appeals from every corner including ASEAN and China.
