Paris police arrest suspected Islamist radicals

French media reported on Wednesday that police arrested the three men and one woman early that day in Paris and the suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis.

The French broadcaster TF1 said authorities had been monitoring the individuals due to their Islamist ties. One of the four was a 28-year-old man who had been charged in 2014 with wanting to join a terrorist organization in Syria.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said one of the individuals was likely planning "violent actions" in France.

"This person was arrested this morning along with people linked with him," Cazeneuve said.

Ongoing anti-terrorism raids

Police also seized a cartridge for an automatic rifle and some computer equipment. The nature of the group's suspected terror attack has not been confirmed, however.

In November, police conducted a major raid in the same suburb following the November 13 attacks that left 130 people dead. Authorities were targeting the suspected mastermind of the attack, Abdel-Hamid Abu Oud, who was eventually revealed to have been killed in the raid.

The arrest comes the same day Belgian police arrested two people in Brussels in connection with the November Paris attacks. Those arrests followed a protracted standoff between police and militants in the city's southern neighborhood of Forest. One suspect was killed in the operation, and was reportedly found with a flag belonging to the "Islamic State" (IS) terror group.
