The statue itself, counting the gilded crown, is 36 meters tall. Add the base, and the monument reaches a height of 58 meters, thus surpassing the size of the Christ statues in Cochabamba, Bolivia and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The idea for the statue came from a local priest. After initial hesitation, the town decided on the project. And it expects economic advantages from big-spending pilgrims and tourists.
