Politically Motivated Crimes Rise

The number of right-wing extremist crimes climbed 8.4 percent last year in the eastern state of Brandenburg, the state interior minister announced on Tuesday. During the same period, the number of left-wing crimes rose 13 percent, said the minister, Jörg Schönbohm. Police registered 983 right-wing extremist crimes and 78 left-wing extremist crimes. Most of them were related to propaganda, Schönbohm said. The number of violent politically motivated crimes fell from 108 to 104.
