THEMEN DER SENDUNG:

Rammstein - Rock export from East BerlinRammstein are known the world over for their martial appearances, killer guitar riffs, and provocative lyrics. Founded after the Berlin Wall fell, the band’s musical roots are in the former East Germany. PopXport on Rammstein and reunification.

Paul van Dyk - DJ star with East German backgroundPaul van Dyk was born in communist East Germany. Shortly before the Berlin Wall fell he and his mother emigrated legally. When the border opened, he returned to the Berlin and started DJing. Reunification marked the start of his global career.

Tokio Hotel – New era pop idolsIn October 1990, Tokio Hotel’s two frontmen were still small children. The advance of the teen band from provincial eastern Germany to a worldwide celebrated pop quartet is partly due to the new opportunities in a united Germany.

HIT: In Extremo - LiamA punk past in East Germany, worldwide tours, and plenty of fire onstage: those aren’t just trademarks of Rammstein but also of In Extremo. The medieval metal band has been mixing electric guitars and bagpipes for 20 years. We play their hit "Liam".

HIT: Marteria, Yasha & Miss Platnum - Lila WolkenMarten Laciny from Rostock in East Germany was 7 when the Wall fell. He wanted to play soccer, worked as a male model in the US, and then became a rapper. His biggest single was in 2012 with Yasha and Miss Platnum. "Lila Wolken" topped the charts.

HIT: Silbermond - Irgendwas das bleibtThe members of Silbermond were also born in the former East. In the first decade of this century, the group was part of a boom in German pop music. "Irgendwas das bleibt" is one of their biggest hits.

HIT: Paul Kalkbrenner - Sky and SandLeipzig-born Paul Kalkbrenner was 13 when he watched the reunification celebrations on TV in 1990. Now he’s one of Europe’s most popular electronic acts. His breakthrough was the soundtrack for the film "Berlin Calling", in which he played the lead.
