Auðn - Black Metal from the Far North

Auðn means 'wasteland' in Icelandic -- but the name doesn't do justice to this band's fast and furious riffs. They travelled 3,000 km from Iceland to play at Wacken and took third place in the Metal Battle there.

Top Hit 2016 - #4: Max Giesinger - 80 Millionen

Singer-songwriter Max Giesinger's "80 Million" came in at No. 4 on our list of top singles. Later, Giesinger re-wrote the lyrics -- and turned it into a tribute to the German national football team. The song made it to No.2 and went gold.

Top Hit 2016 - #3: Alle Farben - Please Tell Rosie        

At No. 3 in our year-end ranking: Berlin DJ Frans Zimmer -- better known as Alle Farben. His summer hit "Please Tell Rosie" stayed in the German Top Ten for more than two months and went platinum.

Top Hit 2016 - #2: Mark Forster - Wir sind groß

Mark Forster's song "Wir sind groß" became Germany's unofficial anthem for the Euro 2016 football championship -- even though the song has nothing to do with sports. The single has sold more than 400,000 copies -- and that makes it the second most successful German song of the year.

Top Hit 2016 - #1: Stereoact feat. Kerstin Ott - Die immer lacht

German pop meets House: the DJ duo Stereoact and singer Kerstin Ott had the biggest German hit of 2016: "Die immer lacht." It's been in the charts since last year -- and the video clip has racked up 77-million clicks so far.
