The situation on the Portugese labor market is dire: Unemployment is rife, wages are dropping and companies are closing in droves. In the wake of the financial crisis, hundreds of thousands of Portugese have emigrated to former colonies such as Angola and Brazil. The army and veterans' groups accuse the government of betraying Portugese interests.
