A day after Berlin lost Sony BMG Music to Munich, the Munich-based pay TV channel Premiere said it was mulling a move to the capital city. After merging with BMG, Sony announced it will leave Berlin, citing high rents at the Sony Center at Potsdamer Platz. Now, Berlin could replace the loss of 230 Sony employees' with Premiere, which once belonged to Leo Kirch's collapsed media empire. The company does not yet know how many of its 1,700 employees will be in Berlin, and has yet to make an official decision on the capital city. But after letting consulting firm McKinsey scout around for possible new locations, they narrowed the choice down to Berlin and are reportedly already looking around for real estate to build a new headquarters.
