Protesting a super highway in the rainforest

A super highway stretching north to south in Nigeria was meant to be a flagship project. But the scheme is on hold as villagers and NGOs face-off with local government over its environmental impact.

But building began without an Environmental Impact Assessment and now villagers and NGO’s are complaining that the construction will have a devastating impact on the Ekuri forest and its communities. After large-scale protests, the Federal Government urged the governor to put the project on hold. But in Ekuri, big tools are parked up outside the village waiting to get on with the job.
