Puma-FIFA Clash Over Kit Compensation

German sportswear manufacturer Puma and soccer's governing body FIFA will begin their two million euro court battle on April 6, it was confirmed on Thursday. Puma was furious at FIFA's decision to ban its controversial

one-piece kits worn by Cameroon during the 2004 African Cup of Nations and are seeking two million euros ($2.58 million)from FIFA in lost revenue. "FIFA overstepped the mark when they banned Cameroon from wearing the body-suits in last year's African Cup of Nations," Puma lawyer Reinhard Stuenkel told German business daily Handelsblatt. Puma claim FIFA banned the bodysuits to appease sports manufacturing rival Adidas and reportedly have witnesses to back their argument. FIFA and Puma have had a long-running feud over what is acceptable in the fashion world of soccer and in 2002 soccer's governing body banned Cameroon's sleeveless shirts during the African Nations Cup in Mali.
