German auto giant Volkswagen could close its Brussels factory as part of an extensive restructuring program, the Financial Times Deutschland reported on Monday, quoting sources close to the company. VW, Europe's biggest car maker, employs a workforce of close to 5,700 in Brussels where it makes its best-selling Golf model. The group declined to comment on the report. But the head of the VW brand, Wolfgang Bernhard, said in an interview published in the latest edition of the weekly newsmagazine Der Spiegel that he everything necessary for the group's success would be considered, including job losses and shutting down plants. Analysts have frequently speculated about the possible closure of VW's factory in Brussels.
