French President Nicolas Sarkozy has pledged his support for the new post of European President. Last month EU leaders signed a reform treaty in Lisbon creating the job. The president would remain in office two and a half years. But each of the bloc's 27 members must ratify the treaty before the new system takes effect. On Saturday, Sarkozy said Tony Blair would be the right man for the job.
