Schaüble’s visit to India follows last month's terrorist attacks in Mumbai which left 171 people dead, including three Germans.
Schäuble praised India for acting responsibly during and after the crisis and stressed that a "stable Pakistan" was important for regional stability.
India blames Muslim extremists from neighbouring Pakistan for the Mumbai attacks.
Schäuble said the aim of the terrorists had been to provoke India and increase tensions with Pakistan.
