Schily Disappointed over 9/11 Acquittal

German Interior Minister Otto Schily said on Friday he regretted the fact that a Hamburg court had acquitted Moroccan-born Abdelghani Mzoudi, accused of helping the Sep 11, 2001 suicide hijackers. Schily said in a television interview he was "disappointed that a ruling had gone in this direction" and that he was hopeful Mzoudi would be sentenced after federal prosecutors said they planned to file a fresh appeal. Schily added that Mzoudi, a former student at a Hamburg university, would remain under observation by security officials. German experts now fear that Mzoudi’s deportation to Morocco may now be put on hold if an appeal is admitted.
