Ski season kicks off in the Harz Region this weekend

January 8, 2016

Thanks to snow guns, skiers can hit the slopes this Saturday on the Wurmberg in the Harz region. Many sledding runs will also be opened. Those who prefer cross-country skiing will have to wait until more snow has fallen.

"We've succeeded in producing enough snow to be able to open several runs on Saturday," said Dirk Nüsse, who works for the ski area's lift operating company. The snow guns have been blasting snow round the clock for several days.
Several sledding runs will also be opened. For now, however, there's not enough snow to prepare the cross-country ski trails.

The Wurmberg is the highest mountain in Lower Saxony. At an altitude of around 1,000 meters (3,280 feet), the area has a lot to offer winter sports enthusiasts: downhill skiing, snowboarding, sledding and winter hiking trails.
