Slovenia's Ziga Jeglic tests positive for banned substance

An ice hockey player has become the latest athlete to test positive for a banned substance at the Winter Olympics. As a result, Ziga Jeglic was left out of Slovenia's lineup against Norway.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced on Tuesday that Slovenian forward Ziga Jeglic, who plays for Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk of the Russia-based Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) had tested positive for the banned substance Fenoterol, an asthma medication.

The CAS statement said the 29-year-old Jeglic, who scored Slovenia's winning goal against Slovakia on Saturday, had failed an in-completion drug test and had accepted the anti-doping violation. He was to leave the Olympic site within 24 hours and was not in Slovenia's lineup for its 2-1 defeat at the hands of Norway on Tuesday.

The Slovenian Olympic Committee said Jeglic had agreed to leave, despite the fact that only the 'A' sample had been examined. The CAS said that any sanction against the player would be decided following the conclusion of the Pyeongchang Winter Games.

This is the third positive doping test at these Olympics, following that of a Japanese reserve speedskater and Alexander Krushelnitsky, an Olympic Athlete from Russia who won bronze in mixed curling.
